WHo Are We? What Do we Believe?

OUR MISSION

We are lovers of God and people! We accept people where they are at on their life journey. We believe it is our responsibility to walk beside others and love them while we also help them experience the transforming power of knowing God deeply. Much of our ministry is based on the words of Jesus from Luke 4:18 and 19:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see,
that the oppressed will be set free,
and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”

WHAT WE BELIEVE

  • There is one God, existing in three personalities: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • Scripture is inspired by God and reveals His nature, His plan for mankind, and is our authority for our faith.
  • While humans are made in God's image, sin has corrupted all of creation, and humans are in need of a spiritual rebirth.
  • Humans are reconciled to God by His grace through the death of Jesus.
  • The present day ministry of the Holy Spirit. He shows up in many ways, including the Spiritual Gifts listed in scripture.
  • God has commanded us to live our lives in love and service to other people, and the Kingdom of God.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY TRANSFORMATION?

Because humans live in a world that is corrupted by sin, each of us is affected by sin, and as a result we have experienced the reality that we often live a life of "quiet desperation" as one author stated. For others, we live in shame, fear, or hiding who we really are.

Transformation, for us, means experiencing God's love so deeply that it changes you. It means that you can openly be who God has truly made you to be with no more shame, fear or hiding out. God will call you to understand that it's ok to struggle, and hurt and learn and grow. He will also help you to understand that transformation occurs in a community. Here at The Shelter Church, we strive to function as a loving family. You will find grace, comfort and a refuge for your soul as you are transformed by God's powerful love.

Who We Are

Who We Are

Michael and Rebecca Holland

Michael and Rebecca are the pastors of The Shelter Church. They are passionate about helping others to grow in relationship to with God, as they heal from the difficulties and traumas of life. Together with the people of The Shelter Church,  Michael and Rebecca are doing their best to create a church where people can be accepted, loved, and experience the freedom that comes from being deeply loved and forgiven.  Too often, church has been a source of pain and rejection. The Shelter Church, while not perfect, is working to help develop a family of believers in God's grace and love. We take seriously Jesus' commandment in John 13:34: "Just as I have loved, you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
